About.com Rating 4

By Peter Piazza, About.com

HiTi 730PS

The HiTi 730PS can produce larger photos than most dye-sub printers.

The HiTi 730PS may be from a relatively unknown manufacturer, but reviewers were still impressed with the high quality of its output, and its ability to produce prints up to 6 x 8 inches (most of the printers covered here only go up to 4 x 6 inches).
Price: $399
Type: Dye sublimation photo printer
Max. Print Speed: Approximately 70 seconds per 6 x 8-inch print
Max. Print Size: 6 x 8 inches
Special Feature(s): Multiple print modes.

PC Magazine Review

Rating: 4 out of 5

Liked: Delivers 4-by-6, 5-by-7, and 6-by-8 prints, at a reasonable 40 cents per copy for a 4-by-6. Prints directly from memory cards.

Disliked: Minimal user guide may not give all the information you need.

In Short: The Hi-Touch HiTi 730PS is a dedicated photo printer that offers true photo-quality output at a high speed, in sizes up to 6 by 8 inches. The thermal-dye technology (widely known as dye sublimation) produces images that are waterproof and smearproof, with a claimed 50-year lifetime.

Steve's Digicam Review

Rating: N/A

Liked: HiTi leads the industry with an amazingly low cost per print of just 40¢ for 4 x 6" prints. Unlike most photo printers, the 730PS is a vertically-oriented device so it uses the least amount of desk space possible.

Disliked: Only JPEG images can be processed and printed in the standalone mode.

In Short: The 730PS is a very versatile printer with its multiple paper sizes and computerless capabilities. Speedwise the 730PS is no turtle, it cranks out 4 x 6" prints in about a minute and it doesn't take too much longer than that to make a 6 x 8" print. It can be easily connected to Windows and Mac computers and produces absolutely stunning results from any photo or graphic application.

Imaging Resource Review

Rating: N/A

Liked: We tossed a lot of 3.1-Mp images (2048x1536 pixels for 3,145,728 pixels) at the 730PS and never saw any resolution issues.

Disliked: The nearby photo shop that sells the printer still doesn't sell the paper, believe it or not. The faraway shop sells it, but at a substantial markup. Plan ahead and buy online.

In Short: You won't find an inkjet printer built as solidly, a company as dedicated to perfecting its products -- or a cheaper way to get the best print from your images. But most importantly, you'll be thrilled every time you click on Print. And that's a revolutionary thought.
