Recycle Used Inkjet Cartridges

By Peter Piazza, About.com

When your inkjet cartridges run dry, you may wonder what to do with the empties. Many schools offer programs in which kids who collect the most empties get prizes, so if you work in an office, ask around. You may be able to help some lucky kid win something great!

But if you work in a home office or can't locate someone who collects the empties, there's a much better option than tossing empty inkjet cartridges in the trash and filling up landfills. The US Postal Service (USPS) is testing a service that allows consumers to send empties (as well as small electronics) for free to a company that recycles them.

Free mailers for the "Mail Back" program can be found in 1,500 post offices in and around Washington, DC, Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Diego, according to the USPS. If the program is successful, it says it will roll it out nationwide. So support the program and help the environment!
