PC Magazine Review
Rating: 3 out of 5Liked: Better scan quality than most flatbed scanners, particularly for slides. Color restore feature for faded photos. Claimed 4,800 pixel-per-inch (ppi) optical resolution.
Disliked: Dust and grain reduction features work with film only. OCR program had trouble reading Times New Roman fonts.
In Short: The Epson Perfection 4180 Photo scanner offers better photo scan quality for both prints and film than most flatbed scanners. And the claimed 4,800-ppi optical resolution is more than most people will ever need. We've seen as good or better scans from less expensive scanners, however.
PC World Review
Rating: 4 out of 5Liked: The 4180 produced very clean line art at its maximum resolution. The 4180 received its best scores for monochrome line art and for a 100-dpi scan (viewed on screen) of a 4-by-5-inch color photo. We were especially impressed with the driver's excellent one-click color restoration.
Disliked: We weren't as impressed with a color photo print that it made from a maximum-resolution scan..
In Short: This versatile scanner provides state-of-the-art image enhancement and wins hands down in its ability to batch-scan 35mm slides.
