Canon iP6700D Photo Printer

Canon iP6700D Photo Printer

The Canon Pixma IP6700D is a photo printer that not only produces excellent color photos, but it's just plain fun. It offers built-in duplex (two-sided) printing, a memory card reader, Pictbridge printing, and an infra-red connection so that you can transfer photos from your mobile phone (if you have the right model) directly to the printer. The only objection many reviewers had was its text printing, which was not as well received.
Price: $160 - $215
Type: Color photo printer
Print Speed: 8 x 10 photo as fast as 76 seconds
Print Resolution: 9600 x 2400 dpi
Special Features: Double-sided printing, infra-red connection, Bluetooth connection

CNET Review

Rating: 7.0 out of 10

Liked: Built-in duplexing; 3.5-inch LCD; full controls on printer; built-in memory card reader; impressive photo quality; IrDA, Bluetooth (with adapter), and Pictbridge direct printing; Mac and Windows compatible.

Disliked: Mediocre text quality; slow text printing.

In Short: Photographers will love the Canon Pixma iP6700D's speedy, high-quality photos, but sluggish, mediocre text output will be a turn-off for the SOHO/business crowd.

PC World Review

Rating: 8.3 out of 10

Liked: Big 3.5-inch color LCD display. Two-sided printing.

Disliked: Bronze-skin tones in photo paper prints. Average text quality and output speeds.

In Short: The iP6700D is a good-quality six-ink photo printer with a nice LCD and connectivity options for printing without a PC. However, text isn't its strongest point, and iP6600D owners don't really need to upgrade unless the new model's improved paper support or Canon-to-Canon feature is on their wish list.

The Age Review

Rating: Highly recommended

Liked: The quality of reproduction is stunning. We tried just about every printing medium including photo stickers, double-sided album paper, T-shirt transfers, CD labels and good old plain paper and the results were consistently good. Using Canon's Photo Paper Pro, the pictures are eye-popping. Set-up is easy, with the printer doing automatic head alignment.

Disliked: We enjoyed showing off the infra-red connection to sceptical pals - take a photo with the mobile phone, point it at the printer, press the send button and . . . wait! Three minutes and 40 seconds to turn out a single 10x15 cm print. Boy, that is slow.

In Short: This is one of those devices that has you wondering how it is possible to get so much for so little. Just $350 (and seen for $300) buys a printer that consistently turns out prints comparable in quality with good silver-halide processing. Astonishing value for money.
