Top 5 Inkjet All-in-Ones For 2005

By Peter Piazza, About.com

More vendors are concentrating on all-in-ones (also known as AIOs, multifunctions, or MFPs). AIOs offers a convenient way to print, scan, copy, and occasionally fax from a single device. Most home and small office AIOs remain inkjet-based, which means that they offer good text and excellent color printing. Many, in fact, are so good that they qualify as photo printers. Meanwhile, the price of laser AIOs are still dropping; so much so, that they’ve got their own “Best of...” listing this year.

1. HP OfficeJet 7410

Reviewers were very impressed with the HP OfficeJet 7410. And it's no wonder; this home-office workhorse comes with almost everything you need for solid printing copying, including a duplexer for two-sided printing, built-in wireless networking, and slots for memory cards.

2. Canon Pixma MP760

All-in-one printers are getting more sophisticated – and more feature-filled – all the time. The Canon Pixma MP760 Photo All-in-One doesn’t only offer scanning and copying, but it has a transparency adaptor for slides and film. Reviewers praised its print quality and speed, but regretted its lack of automatic document feeder and fax.

3. HP PSC 1315 All-in-One

HP's compact PCS 1315 All-in-One was part of our roundup of under-$100 AIOs. So while it doesn't offer the quality or speed of its more expensive cousins, if you're working with a low budget, this should fit the bill. According to reviewers, the PCS 1315 provides good-quality printing, scanning, and copying. They especially liked its text and photo printing when using the optional six-color cartridges.

4. HP Photosmart 3310 All-in-One

There are a lot of photo all-in-ones hitting the shelves these days, and the HP Photosmart 3310 is one of the more impressive. Reviewers complimented the performance and the print quality (one enthused that it even produced great prints on normal inkjet paper). However, they all felt that an all-in-one should come with an automatic document feeder, especially at this price point.

5. Epson Stylus Photo RX700

Epson's six-color all-in-one photo printer gets very high marks for color photo printing from both PC World and PC Magazine. The reviewer at PC Magazine found few faults in the printer except for its lack of an automatic document feeder and fax support; however, PC World felt that its text quality leaves something to be desired.
