Experience

William Harrel is a former Lifewire writer who specialized in printers and scanners. Harrel has been writing about computer technology topics for over 30 years. He has authored or coauthored over 20 books, several of which cover desktop publishing, where he included information on getting the best results from laser printers, high-end prepress imaging equipment, and typesetting machines.

Since then, he has written hundreds of articles, how-tos, round-ups, and reviews of printers, scanners, and all-in-one (multifunction) inkjet and laser-class machines, as well as several other types of hardware, including laptops, desktops, and tablets for publications like PCWorld, Windows Magazine, and MacUser. Harrel is also the author of: "Acrobat for Dummies," and "Mobile HTML, CSS and JavaScript Development for Dummies."

Harrel stresses that to understand printer and scanner technologies you also have to understand how the devices that interface with them work.
