Question: How can I save ink?
Answer: Ink cartridges aren't called "consumables" for nothing. Your printer may have only cost you $50, but you may be spending over twice that in a year in ink alone. So how do you keep the costs down?
- Stick To Black Ink
One way to begin to save ink is to only print in color when you need to. Color ink is way more expensive than black ink, and often you don't need to use it. For example, when you're printing a copy of some information on a Web page, do you really need all those pretty colors?
- Buy Third-Party
Another way is to buy ink from somebody other than the printer's manufacturer. This is where you have to be careful: cheap, badly made ink cartridges can result in poor-quality text and even damage to your printer. However, if you can get a good recommendation to a reputable firm, it could save you a considerable amount of money.
- Buy In Bulk
If you tend to do a lot of printing, then you might want to look into buying your ink cartridges in quantity. You can get some good deals if you buy a lot at once -- and ink cartridges won't go bad.
- Join The Draft
Finally, read your printer manual and find out if it has a "draft" mode. While not good enough for sending out, documents that are for your eyes only can probably be printed in draft, which will save at least some of our ink.
