Before You Buy an Inkjet PrinterInkjet printers are the most popular types of printers available today. They print excellent color, even printing brilliant color photos; they are inexpensive; and they can even print good text. Here are some facts to consider before you buy an inkjet printer. What's the resolution? If you're going to be printing a lot of illustrations, photographs, or other graphics, you're going to want a higher resolution (in other words, more dots per inch). Fast enough for you?On the other hand, if you're going to be printing primarily text, you're going to want as fast a printer as you can get. If you are going to be printing a lot of pages, you also want to find out how many sheets can fit in the input and output trays. Check your consumables.Find out the capacities of the ink cartridges for the printer you're considering. And remember that you will probably not run out of black ink and color ink at the same time, so make sure you have separate cartridges for each. Check paper sizes and weights. Many of the lower-priced printers can only handle 8.5x11-inch paper of medium weights. This is fine if that is what you are mostly going to print on, but if you need to print on legal or ledger paper, or will need to print on heavy-weight paper, make sure the printer can accommodate them. |
