"Output Tray"

By Peter Piazza, About.com

Definition: An output tray is the tray from which blank sheets are fed into the printer or scanner. Many less expensive printers have a combination input/output tray -- the printed sheets will drop into an output tray fitted on top of the input tray.

More expensive printers will have separate output and input trays. If you're going to print a lot of large jobs, check the capacities of both the input and output trays -- if the input tray handles 200 sheets, but the output tray only handles 100 sheets, then you will still have to limit your print job to 100 pages.

Printers in the $500 and up range can also sometimes accept additional input trays, or will sometimes come with more than one output tray.
