Saving Printer Power

Sunday October 29, 2006
I was reading one of the pamphlets that invariably come with my bills, and the one that came with my electric bill reminded me that electric devices -- such as TVs, toasters, and, yes, printers -- tend to "leak" electricity even when they're not technically on. This is not usually a problem with most printers -- they go into sleep mode, which means they're using very, very little power. However, if you are worried about such things, and you have several printers in your home, you may want to consider shutting them off if you're not going to use them for a while. For convenience's sake, you might even consider plugging them -- and your computer, and your monitor -- into a power strip, and then just switching off the strip when you're not computing. (Just don't forget to switch it on again when you need it!)
