HP Posts A Profit Based On Ink Supplies
Tuesday May 16, 2006
According to Reuters today, HP did better than expected profit-wise, largely due to (a) personal computers, and (b) printer ink supplies. Not printers, mind you -- printer ink. And does that surprise you? Printer manufacturers, one suspects, make more money on consumables -- ink, toner, and paper -- than on the printers themselves. Which is why they resist any lower-cost cartridges being sold by other companies.
So when your ink runs out in the middle of your set of resumes, and you have to shell out $30 for another cartridge, be consoled -- at least you're helping HP to post a profitable quarter.
