Do You Own An Epson? You May Be Owed $45.

Sunday April 16, 2006
There are been frequent complaints over the years that manufacturers such as Epson would set their printers to report cartridges empty when there was still some ink left. The manufacturers asserted that this was necessary; that a "safety reserve" of ink was needed to avoid damage to the print heads.

It's hard to say whether printer manufacturers are totally truthful in their assertions that it is necessary to leave a certain amount of ink in the cartridges. Certainly, the courts felt that they should have told their customers what they were doing -- that an "empty" cartridge wasn't truly empty. As a result, owners of Epson printers -- at least, those who have bought printers between April 8, 1999 and May 8, 2006 -- can claim a $45 credit (or a $25 check and a $20 credit). A Web site has been set up with claim forms and other information -- if you're an Epson owner, take a gander!
