The Razor Blade Syndrome

Sunday March 26, 2006
"They will give you the razors and charge you for the razor blades," says Burt Yarkin, chief executive at Cartridge World's U.S. business, in this Chicago Tribune article, and how right he is. The price of ink cartridges for printers can come to nearly as much as the printer itself, and printer manufacturers have spent a lot in advertising and court costs to make sure it stays that way. However, according to this article, several large and obviously legitimate firms, such as Walgreens and Officemax, are offering inkjet refill services, which will save their customers upwards of 50 percent on ink cartridges.
