Look, Ma, No Connectivity!
Friday April 15, 2005
Lexmark has come up with an interesting, if puzzling, photo printer. The Lexmark P315 offers three-color 4 x 6-inch photos, up to 4800 dpi resolution, a 2.5-inch color screen for viewing and editing -- everything that you'd want for a home snapshop lab, right? Well, no -- it lacks any connection to a PC or Mac. In other words, you can print directly from your camera or memory card, but you can't upload the photos into your computer for tweaking, storing, or emailing.
Presumably, this allows Lexmark to sell a higher-quality photo printer for a low price ($129), since it is saving money on the USB port. However, I'm not sure that the savings will be worth the loss of functionality.
